Lectric XPress2: The E-Bike That Makes Hills Feel Flat

The Lectric XPress2 e-bike redefines the riding experience, transforming hilly commutes into effortless joyrides with its powerful motor and versatile features. Despite its "cruiser" name, this bike is nimble, responsive, and surprisingly fun to pilot through urban environments.

Lectric, a popular e-bike brand known for its durable and affordable models, has updated its XPress model with the XPress2. This new iteration offers a robust 750-watt motor as standard, ensuring riders can tackle varied terrain with ease. Available in both a traditional Commuter and a Dutch-style step-through Cruiser frame, the XPress2 aims to be a go-to e-bike for most people.

The XPress2 comes equipped with a 46-tooth front chainring and an eight-speed, 11-32 cassette operated by a Shimano Altus derailleur, creating a smooth and efficient drivetrain. Riders can customize their experience with five power modes and a thumb throttle. Additionally, a programmable pedal-assist sensor allows selection between torque-sensing or cadence-sensing power delivery, catering to individual riding preferences.

This e-bike also offers flexibility with its classification settings, allowing users to switch between Class 1 (pedal-assist only), Class 2 (pedal-assist and throttle), and Class 3 (up to 28 mph, with potential riding restrictions). All adjustments and information, including power, battery life, and trip data, are conveniently displayed on a bright 3.5-inch LCD screen.

Weighing over 66 pounds with its battery, the XPress2 is a substantial machine, but its powerful motor easily handles its 330-pound payload capacity. Even with a rider weighing 250 pounds, tackling steep inclines in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, felt manageable, with the motor delivering smooth, consistent power thanks to Lectric's Stealth M24 technology. The bike’s 6.4-pound battery, easily charged on or off the bike, provides an estimated range of up to 60 miles under ideal conditions, though real-world usage, especially with throttle use and hills, yielded around 30 miles per charge—still ample for daily commutes.

Stopping power is provided by robust 180mm hydraulic disc brakes, ensuring controlled stops even when carrying significant weight. The SR Suntour XCM32 suspension fork with 80mm of travel smooths out minor road imperfections. The bike's 27.5-inch wheels with 2.1-inch puncture-resistant tires offer a balance of comfort and agility, allowing for easy maneuvering through traffic. While assembly can be slightly complex due to the innovative (though perhaps unnecessary) front wheel thru-axle system, and its weight can be a challenge for storage, the XPress2 ultimately delivers a fun, capable, and well-rounded riding experience at a reasonable price.
