WikiLeaks reveals in documents Hezbollah’s relationship with ammonium nitrate

Activists circulated on social media a link to a document transmitted by “WikiLeaks”, dated 11/15/2013, stating that a source in the “Stratfor” Center for Studies, revealed in a correspondence obtained by “WikiLeaks”, that “Hezbollah” has difficulty obtaining On conventional explosives such as C4 and RDX.

This forced “Hezbollah”, according to the document, to rely more on foreign supplies of agricultural fertilizers, especially ammonium nitrate. The source says that the blockade of the Lebanese coast by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon “UNIFIL”, and what he called “Syria’s increasing efforts to cut off Hezbollah’s supplies” caused the party’s shortage of these materials.

The source reassures that the party’s pursuit of these fertilizers, or explosives, does not necessarily aim to trigger new waves of violence on a large scale in Lebanon (similar to the July 2006 war). The source also confirmed that “Hezbollah” is paying the Syrian regime twice the price of fertilizer in the market, and has bought up to 15,000 tons of it from the main Syrian petrochemical facility in Homs.

Hizbullah “now has sufficient military maturity, which enabled it to transform into a highly organized party with a strong ability to exploit political divisions in Lebanon, as well as to find and develop alternatives to military explosives.

The source adds that, in this case, Syria benefits from the profit margin to buy the same fertilizers at cheaper prices from Eastern Europe for its domestic needs.

According to what was stated in the document, this explains Hezbollah’s insistence on the agricultural portfolio in the government of Saad Hariri in 2009, which was assumed by Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan. The source also claimed that Hajj Hassan was facilitating the arrival of shipments of fertilizers from Syria to Hezbollah, which he used to store in his warehouses.

The source reveals that “Hezbollah” now has sufficient military maturity, which enabled it to transform into a highly organized party capable of exploiting political divisions in Lebanon, as well as finding alternatives to military explosives and developing them. It was also likely that the party would use explosives made from fertilizers to build tunnels in mountainous areas in preparation for any confrontation with Israel.

WikiLeaks reveals that fertilizer-based explosives require a balanced mixture with fuel such as diesel or oil, and they need a detonator usually consisting of small quantities of military or commercial explosives in order to double their effectiveness. It is unlikely that finding a person capable of preparing This type of explosive is difficult, given the number of veterans in the Middle East.
