US oil contract falls below $80 for first time since September

The price of the main US crude oil contract, WTI, fell Friday below $80 per barrel for the first time since September on concerns about the global economy and rising numbers of Covid-19 cases in China.

Around 1305 GMT, a barrel of WTI for delivery in December was down 1.9 percent at $80.08, having briefly passed below $80 per barrel. Meanwhile, the main European contract, Brent for delivery in January, was down 1.6 percent at $88.33.
