Germany lose 2-1 against Brazil in women's World Cup tune-up

Two-time champions Germany were beaten 2-1 by Brazil in a women's friendly international on Tuesday, just over three months before the start of the World Cup.

Tamires opened the scoring for dominant Brazil in the 11th minute and German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger did not look good on the visitors' second as Ari Borges' attempted cross from almost the corner flag which went into the far right corner in the 37th.

The Germans found no opening through the firm defence of the Copa America champions until late in the game. Sydney Lohmann aimed wide after a solo run in the 84th before Jule Brand tapped a consolation goal in stoppage time.

Defeat for the 2003 and 2007 world champions Germany came four days after a lucky 1-0 win at 2019 runners-up the Netherlands in the build-up to the July 20-August 20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Tuesday's game marked the farewell of former Germany captain Dzsenifer Marozsan who came on in the second half for a 112th cap. Olympique Lyon play-maker Maroszan is retiring from the national team in the wake of a severe knee injury sustained last year.
