In past six weeks, Russia suffered biggest losses since war began: UK intel

The last six weeks have witnessed some of the highest Russian casualty rates of the war in Ukraine so far, British military intelligence reported on Monday.

“Throughout November 2023, Russian casualties, as reported by the Ukrainian General Staff, are running at a daily average of 931 per day. Previously, the deadliest reported month for Russia was March 2023 with an average of 776 losses per day, at the height of Russia’s assault on Bakhmut,” the UK ministry of defense said in its war intelligence update.

The British ministry added: “Although Defense Intelligence cannot verify the methodology, taken as a total including both killed and wounded, the figures are plausible.”

The intelligence report concluded: “The last six weeks have likely seen some of the highest Russian casualty rates of the war so far. The heavy losses have largely been caused by Russia’s offensive against the Donbas town of Avdiivka.”

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine its forces eliminated about 325,580 Russian personnel since the beginning of the invasion on February 24, 2022.

Additionally, Ukrainian forces destroyed 5,520 tanks, 10,282 armored fighting vehicles, 7,875 artillery systems, 907 multiple rocket launchers, 597 anti-aircraft warfare systems, 323 warplanes, 324 helicopters, 5,905 tactical unmanned aerial systems, 1,565 cruise missiles, 22 warships/cutters, 1 submarine, 10,299 trucks and fuel tankers, and 1,113 pieces of special equipment.

On the other hand, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said last week that the Ukrainian armed forces have lost over 13,700 troops and close to 1,800 hardware units since the beginning of November, according to state news agency TASS.

Meanwhile, Shoigu highlighted the several-fold increase in arms supplies to the Russian forces. The supplies of missile and artillery arms to the troops have increased 4.9 times since the beginning of the year, of armor - over three times, of unmanned aerial vehicles - 16 times, and destruction means - 12. The military begins to receive five times more long-range precision missiles.

“Given the double figure of the financing of the arms procurement order against the basic parameters, the plan of this year will be fulfilled at least 98 percent,” he said.
