White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that US President Donald Trump will decide whether to join Israel's strikes on Iran within the next two weeks as there is still a "substantial" chance of negotiations to end the conflict.

Trump's statement came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel was "changing the face of the world" in its war with Iran, now in its seventh day.

Yesterday's developments:

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he doesn't want to carry out a US strike on Iran but suggested he stands ready to act if it's necessary to extinguish Iran's nuclear program.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he "doesn't even want to discuss" the potential assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by Israel or the United States.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday his country has remained committed to "diplomacy" but will continue to act in "self-defence" following Israel's surprise attack nearly a week ago.
