Liverpool is reportedly already in discussions with Andoni Iraola as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new manager following Arne Slot's departure.
After an end-of-season review led to Slot's sacking, Anfield officials have wasted no time in seeking a new tactical direction. Renowned journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on X that "Talks between Andoni Iraola and Liverpool are already underway and are expected to move quickly."
The approach to Iraola signals a potential shift in philosophy for the Merseyside club, especially after a fifth-place Premier League finish under Slot. FSG and the Anfield hierarchy are reportedly keen on establishing a more aggressive, high-pressing, and urgent style of play. Iraola, who just left Bournemouth after a strong season, is seen as a perfect fit for this tactical brief, known for his intense and brave attacking setups.
Furthermore, Iraola has a pre-existing relationship with Liverpool's Sporting Director, Richard Hughes, who originally brought him to Bournemouth. This familiarity is expected to significantly speed up negotiations, as Liverpool aims to secure their top target early to avoid disrupting crucial pre-season preparations.
While Iraola appears to be the frontrunner, Liverpool is also considering other candidates. According to Sky Sports, VfB Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness is still in contention after impressing in the Bundesliga with his progressive style. Additionally, RC Lens manager Pierre Sage has emerged as an outside contender, having expressed his lifelong dream of managing at Anfield.
However, with formal talks with Iraola progressing rapidly, it seems the Spaniard is the leading candidate for the job.
