Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton recently revisited his roots, attending a match for his former club Sport Recife and cheering them on to victory. The Brazilian side clinched the top spot in the Brasileiro Serie B table during his visit.
Joelinton, who rose through Sport Recife's academy before embarking on a European career, has maintained a strong connection with the Brazilian club. He previously played for Rapid Wien and Hoffenheim before his significant £40 million move to Newcastle United, where he has since become a key player.
During his visit, the midfielder was presented with Sport Recife's home jersey, proudly displaying his name and number seven. The club shared a social media post welcoming him back, noting, "Look who’s here! On vacation, Joelinton came to visit Sport and killed his longing for Retirement Island. Another blond fan- black on the classic! Always a pleasure having you around Big Joe!"
This heartwarming reunion comes as Joelinton faces disappointment after being omitted from Brazil's World Cup squad. Despite his consistent performances in the Premier League, he did not make the cut for the national team.
Now, the focus shifts to his recovery and preparation for the upcoming season. Following a challenging campaign, Newcastle United will be looking to rebound, and Joelinton's fitness and high-level performance will be crucial for the team's ambitions of competing for trophies and securing Champions League qualification next season.
