93,000 Students Begin Yemeni High School Exams Amidst Challenges

Over 93,000 students in Yemen's liberated governorates commenced their General Secondary Certificate examinations on Sunday, June 7, 2026, marking a critical juncture in their academic careers amidst ongoing national challenges.

The examinations proceed under exceptional circumstances that continue to affect Yemen's education sector, following years of conflict and socio-economic difficulties that have impacted educational processes and outcomes. Despite these hurdles, thousands of students are pursuing their aspirations through education.

According to the Ministry of Education, the total number of candidates registered for this academic year's examinations (2025-2026) is 93,165, encompassing both scientific and literary streams. These students are distributed across examination centers in various governorates under the administration of the legitimate government.

Minister of Education Dr. Adel Abdul Majeed Al-Abadi affirmed that the ministry had completed all necessary technical, administrative, logistical, and security arrangements to ensure the examinations proceed in an organized and secure manner. He highlighted the ministry's efforts in preparing examination centers and providing essential resources to examination committees, aiming to foster a conducive environment for students to perform optimally in a calm and equitable setting that upholds equal opportunities.

The ministry has implemented stringent measures to safeguard the integrity of the examinations and mitigate irregularities that could compromise fair evaluation. Al-Abadi emphasized the significance of these examinations in shaping students' academic futures. He also issued a motivational message to students, urging them to trust their abilities and remain calm, viewing the exams as an opportunity to demonstrate their year-long academic efforts rather than a source of anxiety. He advised students to manage their time effectively, avoid late-night studying, and recognize the importance of educated youth as the nation's true wealth and cornerstone for future development.

Acknowledging the psychological pressures associated with examination periods, the Minister stressed the vital role of families in providing a stable and supportive environment. He noted that parental support extends beyond mere monitoring to encompass reassurance and psychological backing, advising against comparisons or undue pressure that could negatively affect students' performance and self-confidence. Educational specialists concur that familial support is crucial for enhancing academic performance and coping with the psychological challenges of this phase.

The Ministry of Education has also called upon all segments of society, including media outlets, civil society organizations, social figures, and citizens, to contribute to the success of the examination process by maintaining quietude around examination centers and actively combating cheating and the spread of rumors. The ministry underscored that upholding the integrity of examinations and the quality of education is a shared national responsibility requiring collective effort to protect educational outcomes and enhance confidence in academic credentials.

Behind the examination hall doors, thousands of students carry significant dreams and hopes for a better future, following years of study and navigating the adversities posed by the nation's exceptional circumstances. As the examinations commence, Yemeni families look forward to this educational milestone as a step towards realizing their children's ambitions. Education, despite the difficulties, remains one of the most critical pathways for Yemenis to build a more stable and prosperous future. Amidst the apprehension of examination and the hope for success, over 93,000 students embark on their journey of achievement, focused on transforming years of effort and perseverance into results that will open doors to their future.
