Liverpool's massive €100 million opening bid for highly-rated teenager Yan Diomande has been flatly rejected by RB Leipzig. The Premier League club made a bold move for the young attacker, but the German side has shut down negotiations, forcing Liverpool to rethink their strategy.
The Reds reportedly submitted a package deal worth approximately €90 million upfront, plus an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons. This offer was confirmed by Sky Sports reporter Philipp Hinze. New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has apparently identified Diomande as a key target to potentially replace Mohamed Salah, who departed Anfield at the end of last season.
Sources indicate that Liverpool has already had positive discussions regarding the player's personal terms, and they anticipate no hurdles on Diomande's side if a transfer agreement can be reached with his current club. However, RB Leipzig is determined to keep the reigning Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for at least another year and is reportedly planning to offer him an improved contract with a significant pay raise.
The initial €90 million plus €10 million valuation was deemed insufficient by Leipzig. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported the rejection, adding that Leipzig is now holding out for a fee closer to €120 million. The German club believes Diomande's value could soar even higher based on his performances for Ivory Coast in the ongoing 2026 World Cup.
Adding to the pressure, Leipzig anticipates that Paris Saint-Germain and other top European clubs might enter a bidding war for the talented winger, although PSG has not yet made a formal offer. This aggressive pursuit signals a significant statement of intent from Liverpool, who have previously broken their transfer record multiple times in the past year.
Despite the initial setback, reports suggest Liverpool is not deterred and plans to return with an improved offer to test Leipzig's resolve.
