Bose Tech Powers Skullcandy's New Crusher Headphones

Skullcandy is making a serious play to ditch its bargain-bin audio reputation, and its latest weapon is a partnership with Bose. The company just launched its new Crusher 1080 ANC wireless headphones, leveraging Bose's renowned audio expertise to revamp its iconic bass-heavy lineup.


Skullcandy, known for its vibrant lifestyle branding and deep bass, has historically struggled with overall audio fidelity. The partnership, which began with the Method 360 ANC earbuds in 2025, aims to change that. The Crusher headphones, a staple for over a decade, are famous for their bass-boosting thumbwheel that vibrates the earcups, but often at the expense of mids and highs. The new Crusher 1080 ANC tackles this by working with Bose engineers to refine the acoustic tuning.


Brian Garofalow, Skullcandy CEO, explained that the challenge was integrating the proprietary Crusher bass technology with active noise cancellation. "We've really been honing our chops in the last few years,” he told WIRED, acknowledging that while Skullcandy excels at community building and cultural influence, engineering innovation has been a focus. The collaboration with Bose allows the bass to be isolated, theoretically ensuring that cranking up the low end won't muddy the rest of the sound profile.


The Sound by Bose integration brings more than just improved bass. The new Crushers feature Bose's advanced noise cancellation, a spatial audio profile for an immersive listening experience, and a six-microphone array for clearer calls. Despite these upgrades and a premium feel, Skullcandy is maintaining its competitive pricing, with the Crusher 1080 ANC retailing at $280, significantly less than comparable high-end models from competitors.


Battery life is also a strong suit, with Skullcandy claiming up to 60 hours without ANC and 50 hours with it on. The headphones also include modern features like auto-pause, customizable EQ via an app, Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint pairing, and Auracast support. Skullcandy hopes this blend of unique features, improved audio, and accessible pricing will help it reclaim market share, especially in the competitive true wireless segment.


This isn't Skullcandy's first attempt at a sonic upgrade, but the deep integration with Bose suggests a more determined effort. With the headphone market buzzing with innovation, from AI-powered features to brain-scanning tech, Skullcandy, under Garofalow's vision, is signaling that it’s ready to push boundaries with its own "very cool stuff" in the future.
