Beyond emotional tolls, financial strain is a significant concern, particularly for National Guard members who often rely on civilian employment for income. The sudden loss of a primary paycheck can create hardship for families left behind. A Pentagon statement acknowledged these concerns, asserting that the department is committed to providing necessary resources and assistance.

Shannon, an Army spouse, described the anxiety of her husband's deployment with only five days' notice and the subsequent challenges in maintaining communication.
