United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has emphasized the critical need to keep Yemen insulated from regional escalations and preserve space for a comprehensive political process aimed at a complete resolution of the ongoing crisis.
This statement followed the conclusion of Grundberg's visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh. During his visit, he held discussions with the Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber. He also met with representatives from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The meetings primarily focused on the imperative for an immediate de-escalation of conflict. Discussions also centered on the necessity for the involved parties to agree on a pathway forward that safeguards the gains achieved through the UN-brokered truce in 2022.
