Liverpool Eyeing Former Midfielder Tyler Morton Ahead of January Window

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on former academy talent Tyler Morton, who is now a regular starter for Lyon, as they scout for midfield reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.

Morton departed Anfield in the summer of 2025, seeking consistent senior game time, a move that has clearly paid off. He established himself as a key player in France last season and has continued his strong form into the current campaign, prompting interest from his former club.

According to reports, Liverpool are monitoring Morton's progress, seeing him as a potential candidate for their number-six role. However, no official move has been made, and Lyon are reportedly hesitant to let go of an important player mid-season.

Morton was sold to Lyon for approximately £15 million in August 2025, with Liverpool retaining a 20% sell-on clause rather than a buy-back option. His current contract with Lyon extends until 2030, placing the French club in a strong negotiating position.

A return for Morton would offer familiarity and homegrown status, coupled with significant development gained from regular Ligue 1 action. The main hurdle would be the financial aspect, as Liverpool would need to negotiate a market rate for a player they sold relatively recently, without a buy-back clause in place.

Any potential January transfer would likely depend on Liverpool's immediate needs, with a mid-season premium potentially making a summer move more sensible if Morton is not considered ready for instant impact.
