Iran has not received a response from Saudi Arabia or Yemen's Houthi rebels regarding its offer to mediate talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
Araqchi made these remarks in a television interview aired on Tuesday, stating that Iran stands ready to facilitate dialogue between the warring parties. The offer comes as the Iran-aligned Houthis have escalated their attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
During the interview with Iraq's Al Ekhbariya TV, Araqchi also addressed the potential involvement of Egypt in the conflict alongside Saudi Arabia. He cautioned that "any foreign intervention would complicate matters" and noted that Egypt had previously informed Tehran that it would "not directly" interfere in the Yemeni conflict.
Egypt has previously declared its readiness to provide Saudi Arabia with necessary support to defend its security, a stance that could potentially heighten regional tensions. A vote in the Egyptian parliament concerning a possible military operation against Houthi fighters, a move that would involve one of the Arab world's most significant armed forces, has been postponed until October 26.
