Erdogan Proposes South Korean Partnership in Sinop Nuclear Project

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that South Korea could potentially partner in the development of Turkey's planned Sinop nuclear power station, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency.

Erdogan stated that Turkey has been evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of the Black Sea project in conjunction with the state-run Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The final decision on selecting a partner will hinge on a thorough assessment of financing arrangements, electricity costs, and the projected economic benefits for Turkey.

The Turkish President is scheduled to commence a three-day state visit to Seoul on Monday, marking his first visit to South Korea since 2018. A summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is planned for Tuesday, as confirmed by Seoul's presidential office.

Beyond the nuclear project, Erdogan also highlighted defense, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and robotics as significant areas for potential bilateral cooperation. He expressed a desire for increased South Korean investment and joint production initiatives within Turkey. Both nations are reportedly working towards a bilateral trade target of $15 billion, with efforts underway to address the current trade imbalance favoring South Korea.

Furthermore, President Erdogan extended an invitation to South Korean companies to participate in Turkey's extensive transport and logistics projects, which are crucial for connecting Asia and Europe.
