German Interior Minister: Happy with the banning of Hezbollah in the country

After months on Germany officially banned the activities of Hezbollah militias On its soil, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer reiterated his happiness for the move.

He said during a conference to announce the annual report of the Internal Intelligence on the security threats in the country for the year 2019: I am happy that we have banned Hezbollah because it cannot be accepted that there are effective parties in our country that threaten other countries.

In addition, he stressed that the threat from extremist Islam in Germany remains high, saying: “We are still dealing with approximately 650 extremists.

He also warned of the increase in crimes of the extreme right, stressing that it constitutes the greatest danger facing the country, revealing that there are 13,000 right-wing extremists ready to use violence.
Hezbollah ban and carry out raids

It is reported that in late April, the Ministry of Interior announced the banning of Hezbollah in the country, and the police carried out raids in time to arrest people suspected of being members of the Lebanese militia.

Security officials estimate that up to 1,050 people in Germany are members of Hezbollah.

 Germany previously separated the group’s political arm and its military units fighting alongside the Syrian regime’s army.

Last December, the German parliament voted by a large majority to pass the law banning Hezbollah, after two ruling parties in the country called for a ban on Lebanese militias, saying it should be included on the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations.

Mattias Middleburg, spokesman for the conservative German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party in parliament, said at the time that a joint decision would be presented with the Social Democrats. He also stressed that “Hezbollah activities are funded through criminal activities all over the world,” calling on the government to ban all Hezbollah activities in the country.
