US sends USS Gerald R. Ford to Eastern Mediterranean

President Biden confirmed the U.S. has moved the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group to the Eastern Mediterranean to be ready to help Israel as needed.

"The United States has also enhanced our military force posture in the region to strengthen our deterrence," Biden said. "We stand ready to move in additional assets as needed. Let me say again to any country, any organization, anyone thinking of taking advantage of this situation, I have one word: Don't. Don't."

"The USS Gerald R. Ford, the Navy’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, and its approximately 5,000 sailors and deck of warplanes will be accompanied by cruisers and destroyers in a show of force that is meant to be ready to respond to anything, from possibly interdicting additional weapons from reaching Hamas and conducting surveillance.

The large deployment reflects a U.S. desire to deter any regional expansion of the conflict."
