The US military on Friday carried out the first of what American officials have said will be a “multi-tiered” response to attacks by Iran-backed militias in the Middle East, according to American media outlets.
The latest attack killed three American soldiers and wounded dozens more after a one-way Shahed drone struck a US base in Jordan last weekend.
It was not immediately clear how much damage the US strikes in Syria on Friday inflicted or whether any Iran-backed militants were killed. The Biden administration has been accused of telegraphing its looming response, allowing Iranian generals and other fighters it backs in both Iraq and Syria to flee their bases.
