Over 25,000 Palestinian women and children have been killed by Israel since Oct. 7, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin revealed on Thursday.
Israel can and should do more to protect civilians, Austin told a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee.
The US defense secretary added that the US had provided more than 20,000 precision-guided munitions to Israel since the start of the Gaza war.
Health authorities in Gaza say more than 30,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks.
The war began when Hamas sent fighters into Israel on Oct. 7, killing around 1,200 people and seizing 253 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.
