The United Kingdom on Wednesday summoned the Iranian charge d'affaires over the transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.
“Today, in coordination with European partners and upon instruction from the Foreign Secretary, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in London was summoned to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Mr. Ali Matinfar was summoned over Iran’s transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine,” the Foreign Office declared in a press statement.
The statement further reiterated earlier stands by the UK government that “any transfer of Ballistic Missiles to Russia would be seen as a dangerous escalation and would face a significant response.”
On Tuesday, the United Kingdom announced the cancellation of all direct flight between the UK and Iran after imposing fresh sanctions on the country alongside Germany and France.
The move came as a reaction to statements by the US that Iran is supplying Russia with missiles for use in Ukraine. Iran in turn has rejected the claims calling them “ugly propaganda” and vowed “appropriate and proportionate action.”
