Yemeni National Resistance Forces spokesperson, Brigadier General Sadeq Duweid, has stated that Iran's frozen assets are a legitimate entitlement for Yemen and that Tehran must bear the cost of the destruction caused by its actions.
In a statement published on his social media accounts, Duweid asserted that frozen Iranian funds represent a rightful claim for the Yemeni people, as well as for all peoples and nations adversely affected by the Iranian regime's policies and regional interventions. He urged the legitimate Yemeni government to take swift international and legal action to demand Yemen's rights and compensation.
Duweid emphasized that Iran bears the primary and greatest responsibility for the outbreak and continuation of the war in Yemen. He pointed out that Iran's role extended beyond supporting the Houthi group to include direct planning, direction, and management of its local proxy as part of its expansionist agenda in the region.
He explained that the extensive destruction, human toll, and economic losses Yemen has endured over the past years entitle the Yemeni people to demand fair and comprehensive compensation. Duweid added that Iran's frozen assets should be utilized to provide redress for war victims and contribute to the reconstruction of areas devastated by conflicts fueled by Tehran.
Duweid further stated that Iran's responsibility is not confined to Yemen alone but extends to several countries and peoples who have suffered from Tehran's interventions and its armed militias in the region, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Gulf Arab states. He affirmed that these interventions have precipitated widespread humanitarian, security, and political crises.
The spokesperson for the National Resistance underscored the necessity of holding Iran fully legally and internationally accountable for the damages inflicted upon Yemen, including comprehensive destruction, grave violations, and the economic and human losses resulting from the war. He considered this a legal and political path that should be pursued in the upcoming phase.
Duweid called on the legitimate government to act effectively and promptly to present the case before international forums and competent judicial authorities, employing all available legal and diplomatic means to ensure Yemen secures its rights and compensation. This, he believes, would contribute to supporting reconstruction efforts and achieving justice for those affected by the war.
