MSC, the world's largest shipping group, confirmed that its vessel, the Sariska V, was struck by two projectiles on Monday while docked at Iraq's Umm Qasr port. All crew members aboard the ship are reported to be safe and unharmed.
The company stated that Iran's Revolutionary Guard has claimed responsibility for the incident. MSC characterized the event as an unprovoked attack on a neutral commercial carrier, emphasizing that the vessel has no affiliation with the United States or Israel.
"MSC is deeply concerned by these unprovoked attacks and the risk they create for its innocent seafarers and essential maritime trade in the region," the shipping group said in a statement.
According to Iranian state media, Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced they had targeted the MSC Sariska V container ship with a cruise missile. This strike was described by Tehran as retaliation for an earlier alleged attack on an Iranian vessel.
