Manchester United has reportedly made positive initial contact with Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, who is reportedly eager for a move to Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old has impressed during his spell at Newcastle, building on his highly-regarded reputation from his youth days at Chelsea. United are said to be targeting Hall as a key player to strengthen their left-back position, potentially as a successor to the aging and injury-prone Luke Shaw.
Hall is reportedly keen on the transfer, viewing a move to Manchester United as a significant step in his career. A chance to play in the Champions League again, after experiencing it with Newcastle, is a major draw, even though the Magpies did not qualify for the upcoming season.
However, convincing Newcastle to part ways with Hall, a key player valued at around €40 million according to Transfermarkt, is expected to be a challenge. The publication notes that if the player strongly desires the move, it could put Newcastle in a difficult position, referencing past sales of players like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.
A "Transfer Fit" rating system scored the potential move at 18/25, highlighting Hall as a strong option for United, with his current performance, potential for growth, and squad need all scoring highly. The main hurdle identified is the significant transfer fee.
