Man Fatally Shot During Child Custody Exchange in Covina

A man was fatally shot on Tuesday evening during a child custody exchange that turned violent in a Covina Home Depot parking lot, according to police.


Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 6:06 p.m. at the Home Depot located at 963 West Badillo Street. Police stated that a significant group had convened for the custody transfer.


An initial investigation by the Covina Police Department indicated that the exchange deteriorated into a dispute between two men. This verbal altercation escalated, leading one individual to produce a firearm and discharge it at the other.


Despite immediate medical assistance rendered by first responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individual suspected of firing the weapon was apprehended by law enforcement without incident.


The Covina Police Department has confirmed that the incident is currently under active investigation.
