Real Madrid Eyes Man City's Ruben Dias After Gvardiol Deal

Real Madrid appears to be shifting its transfer focus from Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol to his teammate Ruben Dias, as Gvardiol is reportedly close to signing a new five-year contract with City.

Los Blancos have been actively strengthening their squad this summer, with an emphasis on defense and midfield. Despite already securing multiple defensive signings, including Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries, new manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on adding another center-back. Gvardiol was previously rumored to be a top target, with reports suggesting Mourinho personally identified the Croatian as a key acquisition.

However, Spanish outlet Sport now indicates that Real Madrid is unlikely to pursue Gvardiol further due to his imminent contract extension with Manchester City. While agent-driven speculation can often complicate transfer sagas, recent reports had suggested Gvardiol was contemplating a move to the Spanish capital.

Despite this setback, Real Madrid's interest in Manchester City's defensive talent isn't over. The club has reportedly placed center-back Ruben Dias on their shortlist. A move for the Portuguese defender might be more feasible for City, considering Dias' age and remaining contract.

With Dias at 29 and three years left on his current deal, this summer could represent City's final opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee for him. If Dias is open to a new challenge and new manager Enzo Maresca doesn't view him as a long-term cornerstone of his project, a transfer could potentially benefit all parties involved.
