Senate Votes to Limit Trump's War Powers on Iran

Four Senate Republicans joined Democrats in a 50-48 vote to curb President Trump's authority to engage in military action against Iran, demanding he either end hostilities or secure congressional authorization to continue them. This measure follows a similar resolution passed by the House of Representatives weeks prior.

The vote, announced with the declaration, "On this motion, the yeas are 50, the nays are 48. The concurrent motion is agreed to," signifies a significant bipartisan challenge to the executive branch's unilateral war-making capabilities.

Senator Tim Kaine, a proponent of the resolution, criticized the administration's approach, stating, "Trump promised to put maximum pressure on Iran, but he ended up delivering maximum confusion, maximum chaos, maximum cost to the American people with his disastrous war."

Kaine further emphasized the financial implications, asserting, "Every second this war continues, the costs to the American people go up." The resolution's passage highlights ongoing congressional concerns regarding the president's authority to commit troops to conflict without explicit legislative approval.
