Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly tracking Sporting CP's dynamic captain, Morten Hjulmand, as both Premier League giants scout midfield reinforcements for the upcoming season.

Hjulmand has emerged as a key figure for Sporting since his move from Lecce, showcasing impressive leadership that has attracted significant attention from English clubs. While no official agreements are in place, interest in the Danish international is said to be escalating.

Adding an intriguing layer to the narrative, reports suggest Hjulmand is a boyhood Arsenal fan. This personal connection could potentially give the Gunners an edge if they decide to make a formal bid, though it's by no means a guaranteed transfer.

Mikel Arteta's side might be keen to bolster their midfield with more depth and physicality, especially considering competition in both the Premier League and Champions League. Hjulmand is noted for his intensity, leadership, and defensive stability, traits that align with Arsenal's strategic goals.

However, the race is far from straightforward, with Manchester City also showing strong interest as part of their own midfield rebuild. Sporting CP has set an €80 million release clause for Hjulmand, but speculation suggests a deal could potentially be negotiated for around €40-50 million.

While a move back to Italy seems less likely for the midfielder, with AC Milan reportedly stepping back, Inter Milan and Napoli remain potential Serie A destinations. Hjulmand, though not the most flashy option, possesses the reliable, aggressive, and intelligent qualities that Mikel Arteta is known to value highly in his players.
