Senior Chinese lawmaker He Wei is scheduled to attend the funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.
A ministry spokesperson confirmed during a regular press briefing that He Wei's attendance at the funeral ceremony is slated for July 3.
He Wei holds the position of vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's highest legislative body. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died on February 28, coinciding with the initial day of airstrikes conducted by Israel and the United States against Iran.
According to reports from Iranian state media, Khamenei's state funeral is set to commence in Tehran on July 4. The proceedings will conclude with his interment in his hometown, the holy city of Mashhad, located in northeastern Iran, on July 9.
