Pregnant Twin Mother Dies in Apple Valley Collision

An Apple Valley resident, Lorena Lopez, 33, tragically died in a vehicle collision on Saturday while five months pregnant with twins.

The incident occurred when a 25-year-old male driver allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Wichita Road and Zuni Road, striking Lopez's vehicle broadside. Lopez, who was driving northbound on Wichita Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

The driver of the other vehicle, operating a Toyota Camry, became trapped as his car caught fire. He was subsequently rescued and transported to a local hospital. His condition and identity have not been released by officials.

Two passengers in Lopez's Nissan Altima sustained injuries and were taken to a trauma center. An online fundraiser identified these passengers as Lopez's children and described her as a devoted mother whose life was "cut short far too soon." The fundraiser also confirmed she was expecting a boy and a girl.

A memorial comprising candles, balloons, and flowers has been established at the crash site by friends and family. Lopez's boyfriend, Albert Benitez, remembered her as a well-liked, humorous, and dedicated mother, noting her strong work ethic. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
