Merino "Very Happy" at Arsenal, Dismisses Transfer Talk

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has put an end to speculation about his future, stating he is "very happy" at the Emirates Stadium and feels like part of the club's family.

Since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2024, the Spain international has been a valuable asset, even if not always an automatic starter. Merino has proven his worth as a versatile squad player, capable of making a significant impact, much like he demonstrated during Spain's recent World Cup victory against Portugal.

Merino himself clarified his contentment, telling COPE, "I’m very happy at Arsenal and I don’t expect anything else. They make me feel as part of the family at the club." This sentiment was shared by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X account.

The 30-year-old has undergone an interesting evolution at Arsenal. Initially seen more as a defensive midfielder during his time at Real Sociedad, Merino has adapted to a different role under Mikel Arteta. He even stepped up as an emergency striker during the 2024/25 season when injuries sidelined both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, a stint that proved surprisingly successful.

This adaptability has seen Merino embrace a more attacking role for both Arsenal and Spain, positioning him as an ideal game-changer coming off the bench. Given his satisfaction with his current role, Arsenal is likely pleased and has no immediate plans to let the midfielder depart.
