A shirtless man was arrested on Sunday by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) after allegedly vandalizing a Waymo self-driving vehicle in East Hollywood.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:34 p.m. at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Edgemont Street. LAPD officers responded to a call reporting a disturbance. Surveillance footage captured the man standing on top of the white Waymo, appearing to shatter its windshield and remove its windshield wiper.

Further video evidence showed the individual climbing onto the vehicle's roof and dislodging parts of the LiDAR sensor, a critical component used by Waymo vehicles for mapping and navigation. Other vehicles navigating the busy intersection were observed maneuvering around the stationary Waymo during the incident.

The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the suspect as 39-year-old Scott Christopher Rose. He was booked into custody on suspicion of vandalism.
