Homicide Probe Launched After Man Found Dead in Tesla Trunk

A homicide investigation has been initiated following the discovery of a Central California man's body inside the trunk of a Tesla.

Javier Becerril, a 42-year-old resident of Hollister, was found deceased on July 9 along Highway 152, east of Lower Cottonwood Road. The Central Division of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the discovery.

According to a GoFundMe campaign established by his family, Becerril was remembered as a devoted father, son, brother, and cousin. His family expressed finding solace in the belief that he is now "free from pain."

The Merced Communications Center had received a report regarding Javier Becerril's disappearance prior to the discovery of his body. The CHP has not released details concerning who reported him missing or the timeline leading to the recovery of his remains from the vehicle's trunk.

Reports indicate that Becerril was employed as a delivery driver for DoorDash. Colleagues from the delivery service have reportedly organized a memorial outside a Safeway store in Hollister, a location where he frequently collected orders. DoorDash has not yet responded to requests for comment.

CHP officers from the Los Banos division responded to the scene and confirmed that Becerril was found deceased within the white sedan. The CHP Central Division Major Crimes Unit is currently spearheading the investigation into his death.
