A domestic violence suspect was fatally shot by Simi Valley police Tuesday morning following a vehicle pursuit that concluded with a crash. Authorities are now investigating the incident, which began with a report of elder abuse and domestic battery.
The Simi Valley Police Department responded to a domestic violence call around 8:15 a.m. at a residence on Dusan Street. The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old male resident, had reportedly fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. Investigators were informed by family members that the suspect was allegedly armed and had threatened to engage police in a shootout.
Officers located the suspect driving near the Simi Valley Town Center at approximately 1:35 p.m. Attempts to initiate a traffic stop were unsuccessful, leading to a pursuit. Video footage captured the suspect's white pickup truck speeding onto a residential street, colliding with objects and a camper before the chase ended near the original Dusan Street location.
The suspect was subsequently shot and killed by police at the conclusion of the pursuit. Details regarding what prompted officers to discharge their firearms, or whether the suspect brandished a weapon, have not yet been released. Reports indicated a white pickup truck sustained bullet holes in its windshield.
The Simi Valley Police Department has initiated a two-part investigation. Detectives will conduct a criminal inquiry into the events, while the department's Professional Standards Bureau will review the officer-involved shooting. All officers involved will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation's outcome.
