The Israeli military conducted targeted strikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday following what it described as a "Hezbollah violation," a day after U.S.-mediated discussions between Israel and Lebanon occurred in Rome.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that an Israeli airstrike on the southern town of Tibnin resulted in one fatality and twelve injuries. This incident follows an earlier statement from the Israeli military indicating it had issued an evacuation warning to the village of Mansouri, located approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles) from Tibnin, asserting its intention to act against the Iran-backed group in the vicinity.
This warning marks the first online advisory issued by the Israeli military for Lebanon in over a month. Previously, in late June, flyers were distributed in Mansouri instructing residents to evacuate. At that time, a senior Lebanese military official informed Reuters that Israel had designated Mansouri as part of a self-declared buffer zone in southern Lebanon. Despite the presence of Israeli forces operating nearby, some Lebanese farmers had continued to access their fields and residences in these towns.
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel reached an agreement brokered by the United States, aimed at de-escalating hostilities along their shared border. However, Israel maintained its position to preserve a security zone in southern Lebanon to mitigate perceived threats from Hezbollah.
