A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old in Moreno Valley, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.
Authorities apprehended Manuel Gomez on Friday at a residence in the 13000 block of Glorybower Street. The arrest followed a shooting incident reported Thursday evening that claimed the life of a 17-year-old Moreno Valley resident and injured an 18-year-old.
Deputies were dispatched to the location on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered two male teenagers, who were subsequently transported to a local hospital. The 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the 18-year-old, also a Moreno Valley resident, is reported to be in stable condition.
The Sheriff's Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and declined to release further details at this time. Officials have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting, the circumstances leading up to the incident, or the specific evidence that identified Gomez as a suspect.
