Chelsea is officially parting ways with striker David Datro Fofana, who is set to join Swiss club Servette on a permanent transfer, marking the end of his disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023 with considerable hype but struggled to break into the first team. His time with the Blues was largely characterized by loan spells across Europe, making a permanent exit seem inevitable.
Renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, reporting that Servette has agreed to sign Fofana permanently for an initial €2.5 million (approximately £2.1 million), with an additional €1 million in potential add-ons. Romano stated, "It’s over between CFC and Fofana." Sports Mole further noted that Fofana is expected to sign a three-year contract with Servette.
Chelsea originally acquired Fofana for around £11 million but he only managed four senior appearances before embarking on multiple loan stints. Despite the financial loss for Chelsea, this permanent departure offers a fresh start for both parties.
Fofana's loan spells included stints with Union Berlin, Burnley, Göztepe, Fatih Karagümrük, and Strasbourg, none of which led to a consistent place in Chelsea's long-term plans. For Fofana, Servette represents an opportunity for stability and regular playing time, crucial at this stage of his career to rebuild and establish himself.
