Journalist Tancredi Palmieri has branded Liverpool's reported £106 million transfer for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as "extremely overpriced."
Reports suggest Barcola could move to Anfield for a fee potentially rising to £123 million, making him one of football's most expensive signings ever. This valuation has raised eyebrows, especially considering the 23-year-old hasn't been a consistent starter for PSG.
Palmieri took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disbelief, stating, "Barcola at 125m€ to Liverpool is the joint 12th most expensive transfer in the history of football. Mah seems to me extremely overpriced."
While the fee appears steep, several factors contribute to modern transfer valuations. Liverpool reportedly needed a significant attacking signing, and PSG held a strong negotiating position due to Barcola's long-term contract. The French club can also point to other high fees paid this summer for players like Morgan Rogers and Yan Diomande.
Interestingly, Liverpool may have even negotiated the price down from a previous estimate of £145 million. Ultimately, if the club can afford the transfer and Barcola delivers on the pitch, the hefty price tag might become a secondary concern for fans.
