Authorities are conducting a manhunt for a father and his 14-year-old daughter, who is suspected of killing her newborn baby found deceased on a Monterey County road. The sheriff has described the teenage mother as a victim of sexual abuse by her own father.
The infant was discovered on August 1st on the side of a county road adjacent to a strawberry field. Detectives believe the baby, identified by officials as "Baby Angelita," suffered traumatic injuries and was placed on the ground by the 14-year-old mother shortly after birth before she fled the scene.
Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, is wanted for multiple felony charges including incest, lewd acts with a minor, child endangerment, and child concealment. Authorities suspect Perez is hiding the 14-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, to prevent law enforcement from locating her.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated at a press conference that details remain limited due to the involvement of two children: the teenage mother and the newborn. The sheriff also confirmed that Ofelia Garcia Ortega, 36, the mother of the 14-year-old, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment but has since been released on bail.
Law enforcement has released photos of Perez, who is reportedly a member of a musical group. The public is urged not to approach Perez or the 14-year-old, but to contact the Monterey County Sheriff's Office immediately with any information regarding their whereabouts. Sheriff Nieto implored Perez to surrender to authorities.
