Four people, including two women, were killed in southern Lebanon on Sunday following Israeli airstrikes, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The strikes were reportedly in retaliation for drone attacks by Hezbollah targeting Israeli forces.
The Israeli military stated that it conducted strikes near a building in Arab Salim, which it claimed was being utilized by Hezbollah. An online evacuation warning was issued for the area prior to the strike, marking the second such warning since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Hezbollah was established in June. Two girls were among six other individuals injured in this particular strike.
The Lebanese health ministry reported that two men were killed in a town situated on the edge of a security zone declared by Israel in southern Lebanon, while the two women died in Arab Salim, located further north of this occupied area. This incident follows earlier Israeli strikes on Friday, which resulted in four deaths and 23 injuries across southern Lebanon. The Israeli military claimed these earlier strikes targeted Hezbollah weapons storage facilities, and they were carried out without prior evacuation warnings.
Hezbollah has accused Israel of escalating its actions to exert pressure on the Lebanese government, which is currently engaged in direct negotiations with Israel under the auspices of the United States. The Iran-backed group has voiced its opposition to these U.S.-mediated talks.
