Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai believes new manager Andoni Iraola has brought a crucial increase in training intensity, stating "I think we need this." The change comes after the club parted ways with Arne Slot following a disappointing 2025/26 season, appointing Iraola, who impressed at Bournemouth, as his successor.
Szoboszlai, a key player for the Reds, expressed satisfaction with the elevated standards under Iraola, detailing how the new training sessions are both demanding and lengthy. He highlighted the importance of this intensity for on-field performance, aiming for the team to be more aggressive and outrun opponents.
The Hungarian international shared his thoughts during an appearance on Liverpool's official YouTube channel. "The training sessions are hard and long. I think we need this," Szoboszlai commented. "That’s the only case you can use this in the game as well because we want to be aggressive, we want to be intense, we want to run more than the other team."
Despite Szoboszlai's positive remarks on the training regime, Liverpool's league form under Iraola has yet to show a significant upturn. The team currently sits sixth in the Premier League with two wins and three draws from their opening five fixtures.
It remains to be seen how quickly Iraola can implement his style, given the demanding nature of the Premier League. The club's struggles in the recent transfer window, failing to secure reinforcements in defence and midfield, coupled with the lack of a clear successor to Mohamed Salah, add further challenges to their season.
