A judge has ruled that a Florida woman accused of firing multiple shots at pop singer Rihanna's Beverly Hills mansion is mentally competent to stand trial, allowing the criminal case to proceed.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi determined that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, is capable of understanding the legal proceedings after a competency evaluation that had previously delayed the case for over four months. The details of her psychiatric evaluations remain sealed.
Ortiz is alleged to have driven a white Tesla to Rihanna's neighborhood on March 8 and fired approximately 20 rounds from an assault-style rifle, endangering numerous lives. At the time of the incident, Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, and their three young children were present at the residence. Police reports indicate bullet impacts were found on the property's gate, a fence, a trailer's windshield, a patio area, and the exterior wall of a nursery room.
Authorities have charged Ortiz with 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, multiple counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle. She reportedly had no known connection to Rihanna but frequently posted about celebrities on social media. Records indicate Ortiz has had prior arrests in Florida for issues including careless driving and domestic violence.
A further court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
