Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has addressed the recent guilty verdict against Manchester City, stating he's not anticipating any retrospective title wins and remains content with Liverpool's on-pitch achievements.
Klopp's Liverpool famously finished just a single point behind Manchester City in two Premier League title races, leading to discussions about potential title implications. However, the German boss has firmly shut down speculation about being awarded additional titles.
Speaking on the verdict, Klopp expressed, "I’m far from preparing for a title or anything like that. I’m absolutely fine with what we’ve achieved in Liverpool. We fought hard on the pitch. I can’t say more about that because I don’t know the details." He added, "I can only wait and see. I have big respect for Guardiola and City’s style of football; they played fantastic and were a top-class opponent for us. If any sanctions are handed out, I have nothing to do with it; I’ll wait and see."
This measured response contrasts with a lighthearted comment Klopp made after leaving Liverpool in 2024, where he joked about joining a potential Manchester City title parade if their honours were stripped. His latest remarks emphasize his focus on the integrity of on-pitch competition.
Liverpool came incredibly close to winning the Premier League title under Klopp on multiple occasions, most notably finishing with 97 points in the 2018/19 season, only to be edged out by City's 98. They did secure the title the following season and again narrowly missed out in 2021/22. While a stripping of City's titles could theoretically benefit Liverpool, Klopp appears to be prioritizing earned success.
