Nobu Malibu Employee Fatally Struck on Dangerous Pacific Coast Highway

A 51-year-old employee of Nobu Malibu restaurant was killed Saturday morning after his parked car was struck by a Range Rover on Pacific Coast Highway.

The victim, identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as Ryo Uchimiya, had arrived at work early and was waiting in his vehicle outside the upscale restaurant. The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. when a Range Rover, driven by a 16-year-old male, collided with Uchimiya’s car.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. John Addington, preliminary indications suggest the teenage driver may have been speeding. An investigation into the collision is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time. No other injuries were reported.

The 21-mile stretch of Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu is recognized as one of California's most dangerous roadways, averaging approximately four traffic fatalities annually over the past decade. This incident follows a tragic crash in October 2023, where a speeding BMW driver struck three parked cars, resulting in the deaths of four Pepperdine University sorority sisters. The driver in that incident faces murder charges.

The area has also seen increased construction and reduced speed limits following the January 2025 wildfires, which led to the destruction of numerous local residences and businesses.
