Hujariyah Fronts Bleed Amid Fierce Houthi Offensive

Fierce fighting is engulfing the Hujariyah fronts in rural Taiz, as Houthi forces intensify their offensive and local fighters resist against mounting pressures. Concerns are escalating over the potential fall of strategic positions and the disruption of supply lines for besieged troops.

The current battles are concentrated around Jabal Matran and the areas of Quds and Bani Yusuf. Houthi militias have deployed significant reinforcements and attempted advances from multiple axes. Field sources report that the group has completed its control of Jabal Matran and has begun to infiltrate Bani Yusuf, with movements directed towards Jabal Al-Rāhish in an effort to broaden the conflict and open a route towards Al-Sulo.

These developments occur while the 35th Armored Brigade and popular resistance forces continue to repel Houthi attacks. Local sources describe these engagements as among the most intense confrontations the region has witnessed, with Brigadier General Abdulrahman Al-Shamsani and Brigadier General Jamil Aqlan leading operations in the field, according to local reports.

Activist Abdulhaleem Sabr expressed significant dissatisfaction with the battlefield management, noting that fighters on the Sabran front in Al-Turbah held out for two days before the remaining forces withdrew to regroup and continue the fight. He stated that the Houthis subsequently seized Jabal Matran and began advancing into Bani Yusuf, concurrently moving towards Jabal Al-Rāhish via Al-Shaqadaf and Al-Hayab. Sabr emphasized that controlling Al-Rāhish would have wide-ranging implications due to its strategic location connecting multiple districts and fronts.

Sabr criticized the delayed air support, mentioning only one airstrike was conducted late in the battle, after significant fighting had already occurred, resulting in casualties and shifts in control. Some of these concerns are echoed in field reports detailing the continued Houthi pressure on the positions of the 35th Brigade and resistance fighters in Matran, Hawban Quds, and Al-Mekisha, with battles ongoing for the third day.

Fighters and activists warn that sustained pressure on these fronts without reinforcements and the opening of supply routes could transform tactical withdrawals into broader territorial losses. This is particularly concerning as the Houthis attempt to expand the scope of their offensive and link multiple fronts simultaneously. Sabr believes that securing Al-Sulo district and maintaining supply lines for the 35th Brigade are critical and cannot be postponed, cautioning that recapturing lost positions will be far more costly than reinforcing and defending them now.

The current situation highlights a stark contrast: frontline fighters face an escalating offensive, while questions persist regarding the adequacy of reinforcements reaching the most pressured fronts and the capacity of the Taiz axis leadership, associated with the Islah party, to effectively manage the battle. While reports confirm ongoing resistance and combat in Quds, Bani Yusuf, and Al-Sulo, indicating no comprehensive collapse, the sustained Houthi pressure and slow support delivery present a critical test for the command. The challenge is to convert the resilience of frontline fighters into an opportunity for defense reorganization and reinforcement of vital positions, or risk the gradual attrition of these fronts, potentially leading to a cascading series of losses.

The core issue, as Sabr summarizes, is not the fighters' willingness to battle, but the provision of necessary resources to sustain their efforts. In a conflict where control lines shift within hours, delays in dispatching reinforcements carry a significant cost. A position defensible today may become a more difficult and costly target for recapture tomorrow. Attention remains focused on Jabal Al-Rāhish, Al-Sulo, and other Hujariyah sectors, and on the military leadership's ability to translate announced support into tangible assistance before the Houthi offensive widens, making containment efforts more complex.
