Real Madrid is reportedly being encouraged to make a move for midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as his current playing time at Arsenal is sparking debate in Spain.
Zubimendi, who joined the Gunners to bolster their midfield, has seen his lack of consistent minutes lead to suggestions that a return to Spain might be a viable option. According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Dani Garrido, a presenter on Cadena SER, believes Real Madrid should investigate signing the former Real Sociedad player, especially given the questions surrounding his role in Mikel Arteta's squad.
Garrido expressed surprise at Arsenal's apparent hesitation to grant Zubimendi regular game time, pointing out instances where he has been deployed out of position. "Having Zubimendi, for example, in London where he doesn’t play at all, absolutely nothing, zero minutes, and when he does play they put him at full-back… if I were Madrid, I’d ask the price," Garrido stated. He further suggested that Zubimendi could be a "perfect option for Mourinho," implying his suitability for a more defensive role should an opportunity arise.
Zubimendi established his reputation at Real Sociedad as a technically adept midfielder skilled in possession, tempo control, and defensive contributions. These attributes could certainly appeal to Real Madrid should they seek to strengthen their midfield lineup. However, Arsenal might be hesitant to let him go, having brought him to the Premier League with the intention of improving their squad. His future prospects at the Emirates Stadium will likely hinge on how his role evolves within the team.
Any potential move would also depend on Real Madrid gauging Arsenal's willingness to entertain offers. While Garrido's comments highlight growing discussions in Spain about the midfielder's future, they do not indicate any concrete negotiations. For now, Zubimendi's situation at Arsenal remains one to watch, with continued limited opportunities potentially fueling further speculation about a switch to the Spanish giants.
