Trent Alexander-Arnold has no plans to return to Liverpool anytime soon, despite facing a tougher time securing regular game time at Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old right-back is in his second season in Spain and is currently finding himself behind Federico Valverde in manager José Mourinho's pecking order. This situation has naturally fueled speculation about a potential move back to Anfield.
However, recent reports suggest that both Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool are looking elsewhere for their futures. According to Football Insider, Alexander-Arnold is committed to staying at Real Madrid and competing for his spot, rather than pushing for an immediate return to his former club.
Despite starting only three of Madrid's first nine La Liga games this season and struggling to consistently impress Mourinho, Alexander-Arnold is still under contract until 2031 and is considered part of the manager's plans. Liverpool, too, is not actively pursuing a reunion, even with some uncertainty at the right-back position on their end.
While the idea of Alexander-Arnold returning to Liverpool might seem appealing given his academy roots and impressive passing ability, the footballing fit isn't straightforward. Liverpool already has a competitive group of right-backs, including Ronald Araujo and Jeremie Frimpong, and the team's system places significant demands on full-backs defensively. Furthermore, his departure from Liverpool in 2025, after running down his contract, was met with mixed reactions from some fans, potentially adding an emotional hurdle to any future reunion.
For now, the most likely scenario is that Alexander-Arnold continues to fight for his place in Madrid, while Liverpool explores younger talent. A reunion down the line isn't off the table, but neither party seems ready for it at this moment.
