Video of a burning airplane on the Polyuc-José María Morelos section in Quintana Roo in Mexico has stunned locals amid reports the aircraft was shot down by drug criminals
An airplane has allegedly been shot down by drug cartels in a shock attack in Mexico – with traffic coming to a standstill as the aircraft crashed on a busy road.
Locals were astonished to find a burning plane on the Polyuc-José María Morelos section in Quintana Roo in Mexico on Sunday.
One Twitter user shared a video of the burning plane along with a message that the carnage was the consequence of a vicious drugs related gun fight.
They tweeted: "An aircraft landed in the midst of crossfire, allegedly with burning federal forces."
Local news reporter, Javier López Díaz, gave dramatic details of the moment the plane landed on the highway.
He tweeted: “The plane lands and catches fire on the Carrillo-Mérida federal highway.”
Astonishing footage showed flames leaping from the front end of the plane as it sat motionless on the highway.
Thick, black smoke quickly darkened the sky as motorists drove towards the shocking scene.
