Yemeni tribes refuse Houthis' arbitrate for Al Ra'i's assassination

The Yemeni capital, Sana'a, witnessed on Thursday, a large armed crowd of sheikhs and sons of the Bani al-Harith tribe, who called for the meeting to be held following the assassination of Sheikh Khaled Hussein al-Ra'i by Houthi elements affiliated with the Houthi leader Abu Nashtan.

Video clips circulating of the tribal crowd showed the sheikhs and sons of the Bani al-Harith tribe rejected the tribal mediation presented by Bani Hashish led by Yahya al-Qadi and other figures. However, the sheikhs of Bani al-Harith demanded that the killers of the Houthi elements be handed over to prison, and the mediation was granted a deadline until next Monday.

Local sources said that militias affiliated with the Houthi leader, Abu Nashtan, had recently assassinated Sheikh Khaled Hussein Al-Ra'i, following disputes between the two families.

Eyewitnesses said that Abu-Nashtan's militia fired a barrage of bullets at Al-Ra'i while he was driving his car, after which Abu-Nashtan's militiamen pulled him down from his car while he was injured and executed him directly, then they abused his body and ran over it with their cars.
