A UN organization halts a project after Houthi landmine explosion in Yemen's Hodeidah

Houthi landmines have halted work on a water project implemented by the United Nations Organization for Migration in Khawkhah district, the interim capital of the coastal governorate of Hodeidah.

Local sources said that a Houthi landmine explosion halted work on the water project being implemented by the UN Organization for Migration in the Mushaj area of Khawkhah district, south of Hodeidah.

The land mine exploded while the workers were installing the water supply for the project at the site, without anyone being hurt. The sources added.

The Organization will complete the project after the demining engineering teams survey the site in order to ensure that there are any other mines to remove.

Two weeks ago, a UN convoy carrying, the director of the UN Mine Action Agency, was hit by landmines in the northern suburbs of Hodeidah.

Since the start of the war, the Iran-backed Houthis have transformed the districts of the Yemen's West Coast into fields of mines and explosive devices, which have claimed the lives of thousands of civilians.
